South Bend - Michiana Regional Transportation Center

The current end of the line for Eastbound trains, the South Shore operates from a high level platform at the east end of the Michiana Regional Transportation Center (South Bend Airport).
The ticket office is inside the MRTC. Open 5:15am to 12:45pm - Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 5:15am to 12:15pm Monday to Thursday. Newly activated ticket machines are also at this station, plus tickets can be purchased on the train. Along with the airport's Short and Long term parking there is a special lot for South Shore passengers (no overnight parking, 75c fee).

Bendix - This is a stop for special service trains to South Bend. There are three 8 car unloading places along this street, where special trains stop to unload passengers. The passengers are then taken by coach to their final destination in South Bend, usually Notre Dame stadium. This stop relieves the burden on the South Bend Airport station, where the high level platforms can only serve two cars per side, and connections to charter coaches would be a problem.
South Bend Amtrak Station - This station building housed the final Eastern stop of the South Shore in South Bend from 1970 when the South Bend street running section was abandoned until 1992 when the new station was opened at the South Bend Airport. The building is still used for the South Bend Amtrak station. There is a small freight yard just West of the station.

Some of the information in the track diagrams is based of diagrams by Bill Vandervoort available on South Shore Rail Tips Page of the Chicago Transit/Metra Railfan Page, however corrections, yard info and photographs have been added to the diagram, the diagram has been flipped to run West to East, and the focus of the coloring has been changed to elecrification rather than signalling. The photographs on this page and connected pages were taken by James Bellaire. Most were taken September 16th and September 27th, 1998.
