Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad (NICTD)

Beverly Shores Stop

Beverly Shores is the last surviving flag stop in Porter County. It is about halfway between Dune Park and Michigan City. The Double Track Northwest Indiana project added a second track and replaced the single short low level platform at the station with two longer platforms (each 200ft long, long enough to serve a four car train). ADA related changes were made at the station and chair lifts are available for each track to allow a wheelchair to be loaded on to a train car.

Passengers are advised to press the call button located on a post on the platform five minutes before the train arrives to request that the train stops. Westbound trains normally use track 2 (close to the station building) while eastbound trains use track 1 with a pedestrian crossing near Broadway St.

The station building is the last Spanish style Insull building remaining in service as a train station. The only other remaining building (on the North Shore Line) no longer has passenger rail service.

Kemil Rd (State Park Rd)
Kemil Rd is located 1.4 miles west of Beverly Shores and was once a flag stop. In addition to the new gated double track crossing, a pedestrian crossing has been added with gates and "another train coming" warning signs. Kemil Rd is also known as State Park Rd (the eastern edge of the Indiana Dunes State Park) and CR 300 E. All property north of the NIPSCO power lines are owned by the state park or the national park.

In 2025 the Calumet Trail that currently runs along the NIPSCO access road under the power lines will be upgraded to a paved path running through property owned by the National Park and rerouted to the south side of US 12 between Dune Park and Kemil Rd. The trail will cross the South Shore here and at the Dune Park station.

The crossing viewed from the southwest with the Calumet Trail in the background. The trail crossing has been built at an exact 90 degree angle to the tracks to make it easier for bicycles to cross and make it easier for a trail user to look left and right to see trains. (Mar 2024)

The crossing viewed from the northwest with US 12 (Dunes Highway) in the background. An environmental center on the southwest corner of the intersection of US 12 and Kemil Rd will provide rest facilities for trail users and a parking lot that can serve as a trailhead. (Mar 2024)

The warning lights on the trail can display "another train coming" under the alternating red lights when both tracks are in use. (Mar 2024)

Beverly Shores pre Double Track

This historic building houses a small museum, as well as hosting a South Shore flag stop. With the restored neon lighting, the station is even pretty at night.

 DOUBLE TRACK NORTHWEST INDIANA CONSTRUCTION

This station remained open during construction. Busing replaced trains effective February 28th, 2022, through October 25th, 2023.

The Double Track NWI project added a second track where the former single platform was located. Two new 200ft platforms were built for the station.
