Conversion to CTC |
Prior to the extension of CTC from Michigan City (Shops) to South Bend (Grandview), the eastern 32.2 miles of the line used "Absolute Block Signaling". Trains are given permission to travel via track warrants that specify limits, direction of travel and other restrictions on their movements.
From west to east, the absolute blocks were:
MP 31.9 (Karwick Rd) to Birchim (190 WB) with five intermediate signals
Birchim (181 EB) to Olive (102 WB) with four intermediate signals
Olive (99 EB) to Grandview (MP 3.0) with four intermediate signals
Grandview (MP 3.0) to Airport (MP 0.0) with two intermediate signals |
