Signal Aspects for Miller

The following diagrams detail the signal aspects possible for CP 55.7 and CP 55.0 in Miller. CP 57.5 and intermediates at 531/532 are also shown. Both tracks at both stations have high platforms and gauntlets.
CP 57.5 is a diamond crossing of an industrial lead (EJ&E "one way low speed" OWLS diamond).
CP 55.0 has an eastbound connection to a CSX line from track 2 and a storage yard on track 1.
Selected eastbound trains terminate at Miller and return to Chicago as eastbound trains.

Westbound Trains

With normal right hand running trains heading westbound from Chicago use track 2. Westbound trains may also use track 1.

Follow the signals westbound from the bottom of the diagram to the top as all aspects available are shown at each location. The smaller signals show which aspects at the next signal west will lead to the aspect illustrated (on each track).
Restricting is always shown if the track is occupied between locations. Stop is shown if the track is occupied at the location (before the opposing signals) or the train does not have permission to proceed.

Approach and Diverging Approach are shown westbound at CP 55.0. The intermediate signal at 532-2 (532-1 on track 1) provides advance warning. The following diagram compares signals for a train headed toward a Restricting or Stop signal at CP 55.7. Advance Approach at 532-2 and Approach at CP 55.0 indicates the train will take the track closest to the platform at the gauntlet but must be prepared to stop at CP 55.7. Approach at 532-2 and Diverging Approach at CP 55.0 indicates the train will use the bypass track at the gauntlet and be prepared to stop at CP 55.7. Approach is also shown at 532-2 if CP 55.0 is Restricting or Stop.

This configuration allows a passenger train stopping at the platform to enter CP 55.0 on an Approach signal (instead of Restricting) or a freight train to pass on the bypass track and stop at CP 55.7.

Storage Track (Track 1) and CSX Connection (Track 2)
At CP 55.0 there is a storage track connected to track 1 and a connection to the CSX main line connected to track 2. The storage track is connected east of the station and allows passenger cars to be stored and then returned to the main line as westbound trains. The CSX connection allows interchange of freight between CSS and CSX.

Trains leaving the storage track are controlled by a tall dwarf signal showing diverging aspects. Trains entering from CSX are controlled by a standard track side signal with limited aspects (no diverging approach). There is no crossover between main tracks at CP 55.0. Trains will cross over to track 2 (normal for right hand running) at CP 55.7.

Eastbound Trains

With normal right hand running trains heading eastbound from Chicago use track 1. Eastbound trains may also use track 2.

Follow the signals eastbound from the bottom of the diagram to the top as all aspects available are shown at each location. The smaller signals show which aspects at the next signal west will lead to the aspect illustrated (on each track).
Restricting is always shown if the track is occupied between locations. Stop is shown if the track is occupied at the location (before the opposing signals) or the train does not have permission to proceed.

Approach and Diverging Approach are not shown eastbound at CP 55.7. A Restricting signal is displayed.

CSX Connection (Track 2) and Storage Track (Track 1)

Trains traveling to the CSX Connection approach CP 55.0 on track 2 (the left hand track eastbound).
Trains traveling to the Miller Storage Yard approach CP 55.0 on track 1 (the right hand track eastbound).
Trains can cross over ta CP&mnsp;55.7 approaching CP 55.0.

Signal Progression

Westbound trains travel right to left approaching CPs and even numbered intermediate signals.
Eastbound trains travel left to right approaching CPs and odd numbered intermediate signals.
(Track numbers follow the dash in signal numbers on intermediate signals.)
If a train is present in a block marked in red or the signal entering that block is set to stop the signals in the preceeding blocks will follow the approach and clear aspects shown. Flashing red denotes blocks where restricting replaces approach.
