Signal Aspects for Michigan City | |||
The following diagrams detail the signal aspects possible for CP 37.9, CP 36.0, CP 34.6,
CP 33.5, CP 33.3 and CP 32.2 in and near Michigan City. Intermediates 359-1 and 360-1 are also shown.
Both tracks at the 11th St Station have high platforms and gauntlets. Track 1 has an eight car platform, Track 2 has
a four car platform.![]() Westbound TrainsWith normal right hand running trains heading westbound to Chicago use track 2. Westbound trains may also use track 1.The westbound signals are the same on track 1 and track 2. Westbound on track 1 at CP 36.0 is intermediate 360-1. ![]() Trains arriving from South Bend and leaving Michigan City on track 2 take the diverging route at CP 33.3 (the left column up the chart, with the exception of Approach Diverging leaving CP 32.2). Trains originating in Michigan City receive a Divering Clear signal to enter CP 32.2 then follow the signals above. ![]() Trains leaving the freight yard at CP 36.0 receive a diverging signal. ![]() Eastbound TrainsWith normal right hand running trains heading eastbound from Chicago use track 1. Eastbound trains may also use track 2.(Peak trains longer than 4 cars would use track 2 to take advantage of the 8 car platform.) ![]() Trains arriving from Chicago on track 1 follow the left column up the chart above. Signals for both tracks are shown. The main line to South Bend is the non-diverging route at CP 32.2. Approach Diverging aspects are not shown on track 1 at CP 33.5. Clear and Diverging Clear are not shown on track 2. Freight trains receive a restricting signal on track 2 at CP 36.0 when leaving the main line for the yard. Signal Progression ![]() Westbound trains travel right to left approaching CPs and even numbered intermediate signals. Eastbound trains travel left to right approaching CPs and odd numbered intermediate signals. (Track numbers follow the dash in signal numbers on intermediate signals.) If a train is present in a block marked in red or the signal entering that block is set to stop the signals in the preceeding blocks will follow the approach and clear aspects shown. Flashing red denotes blocks where restricting replaces approach. |
